GCT (Green Classroom Toolbox)

GCT-afterThis project targets the problem of excessive energy consumption in existing schools by developing evidence-based design guidelines for retrofitting existing educational spaces.

The guidelines seek to:

  • Increase the productivity, comfort, and health of students in classrooms
  • Facilitate integrated design and cooperation between building professionals
  • Reduce environmental impacts and move us towards carbon neutral schools
  • Potentially be a model for future replication and dissemination.

The developed guidelines will produce a searchable data base that provides tools for architects, engineers, retrofit professional, and school officials. It will generate the 30 best classroom retrofit practices based on typological and climatic inputs, then sort by energy impacts, academic performance, and health impacts evidence.
